Nvidia Gsync Freesync supported monitors

Following the release of the Geforce driver 417.71, Nvidia have stuck to their CES promise of delivering Gsync functionality to Freesync monitors. Thus, if you have a freesync monitor and an Nvidia graphics card, now you will be able to further reap the benefits of the Nvidia card.

However, depending on the monitor you have, it might not be quite plug-and-play. Although Gsync might be enabled by default on some Freesync monitors, such monitors would have to be certified by Nvidia as being Gsync compatible. To be Gsync compatible, a monitor would have to pass through various tests carried out by Nvidia. As of the launch of the Geforce driver 417.71, only 12 Freesync monitors were actually certified as GSync compatible from a total of 400 monitors, currently resulting in only a 3% pass rate.

If the Freesync monitor is not marked as Gsync compatible by Nvidia, you would still be able to enable the Gsync feature manually through the Nvidia control panel, however, there is the risk of experiencing stuttering or screen tearing.

There are also other caveats as well. First and foremost, although HDMI and Displayport are supported, only the HDMI 2.1 standard and Displayport 1.4a are supported. Thus, you will have to have at minimum a monitor and cables which support these standards as a minimum.

Furthermore, Running Gsync on a Freesync monitor is only suppored on 10xx and 20xx cards and above. So if you have a 980Ti or similar cards you are out of luck.

This presents a challenge when in the market to buy a new monitor. If you are interested in buying a Freesync monitor because it is either cheaper or better than its Gsync counterpart but want to reap the benefits of Gsync, you’d have to scour the internet to check if the monitor you’re intersted in has been tested by someone else to see if Gsync works. In this regard, HOT.MT is bringing you an exhaustive and up-to-date list for you of Gsync compatible Freesync monitors and uncertified monitors which work with Gsync when enabling the option manually.

Samsung C24FG70 VA 70-144 I’ve got it working with the pendulum demo once (It did work very smoothly, but some ghosting was visible), but many games have had singificant issues. Lots of stuttering occuring, double frame ghosting, etc. Possibly may be my setup being problematic as opposed to the monitor. Problems appear to be more bugs with my drivers than actual issues with the hardware. Further testing required. (UPDATE) Okay I’ve got it working in The Talos Principle, I never knew anything could look so smooth… This is really quite something once you get it working. A new bug I’ve noticed is that the resolution not optimal message has shown up a few times. Not sure why, mucking around with the OSD for a while has got rid of it so far. A quick google on that suggests that my CRU edits might be the cause.
